5.30 - Guidance and Counseling

Elementary Students [PK - 5th Grade]

The school provides a counseling program for students delivered by school social workers and school psychologists. The counseling program will assist students with interventions related to academic, social, and/or personal issues. Students shall be encouraged to seek academic, social, and/or personal assistance. Each staff member is responsible for effectively guiding students under his/her supervision in order to provide early identification of intellectual, emotional, social, or physical needs, diagnosis of any learning disabilities, and development of educational potential. The District’s school social workers and school psychologists shall offer counseling to those students who require additional assistance.

Secondary Students [6th - 12th Grade]

The school provides a counseling program for students delivered by school social workers, school psychologists and school counselors. The counseling program will assist students with interventions related to academic, social, and/or personal issues. Students shall be encouraged to seek academic, social, and/or personal assistance. Each staff member is responsible for effectively guiding students under his/her supervision in order to provide early identification of intellectual, emotional, social, or physical needs, diagnosis of any learning disabilities, and development of educational potential.

In addition to the above supports, the Counseling Department is available to assist students in identifying career options consistent with their abilities, interests, and personal values.  Students are encouraged to seek the help of counselors to develop class schedules that meet the student’s career objectives.  All students have the opportunity to receive college and career-oriented information.  Beginning in middle school, representatives from colleges and universities, occupational training institutions and career-oriented recruiters, including the military [primarily high school], may be given access to the school campus in order to provide students and parents/guardians with information.
