Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor of Arts - Spanish & History (2009) Master of Arts - Elementary Education (2015) Bilingual, ESL & Middle School Endorsed
Hello! My name is Rachel Miller. I’ve been working in the district as a bilingual teacher since 2015. I graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2009 with majors in Spanish and History. After getting my Bachelor’s degree, I lived abroad for a few years teaching ESL. In 2011, I returned to Illinois to pursue my Master’s degree in Education and to get my bilingual teaching license.
As an educator I work each day toward closing the achievement gap in our country’s public school system. The cause closest to my heart is my belief that all children should have the right to a rigorous bilingual and bi-cultural education.
A few of my favorite quotations are:
“If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children.” - Mahatma Gandhi
“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” - Maya Angelou
“Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot un-educate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore.” – Cesar Chavez
“Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul - and sings the tunes without the words - and never stops at all.” – Emily Dickinson
“There are three ways to ultimate success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind. “ – Mr. Rogers
