Mr. Frieman Charles began teaching in 2005 at a charter school for gifted and talented elementary and middle school students in northern Wisconsin.

He has lived in Belgium and France and has spent time in French-speaking Canada, Switzerland, and the Caribbean island of Martinique.

He has worked for two professional theatre companies and served as the president of a non-profit community theatre.

He serves as chair of the American Association of Teachers of French's Commission for the Promotion of French and previously served as co-chair of the American Alliance of Theatre & Education's High School Network and as a teacher representative on the National Council of the Société Honoraire de Français.

In 2017, he was named a Knight in the French Order of Academic Palms, a national order originally established by Emperor Napoleon, for making contributions to French culture.
