Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor's degree in English Education from Northern Illinois University Master's degree in Reading specialist education from Olivet Nazarene University
Mrs. Botts
I have been teaching English here at Round Lake High School since 2012. In that time, I have taught a variety of class including, freshman English, Literacy strategies, College Composition, English 3, English 4 Contemporary, and AP Literature. This year, I have the privilege of teaching AP Literature and English 3 where we will focus on reading and writing strategies and work on applying those strategies to the two big tests those years (the SAT and the AP Literature exam).
Looking back at my childhood, I cannot remember a time that I did not want to be a teacher. After high school, I attended Illinois State University where I began my degree in deaf and hard of hearing education. After a year, I realized that I wanted to work with high school students more than any other age group because of the leaps and bounds in maturity and thinking they experience during those years. I then turned to an English degree because I knew my passion in high school was in reading and writing.
In 2009, I graduated with my undergraduate degree in English Education from Northern Illinois University. In 2018, I attended Olivet Nazarene University to achieve my master's degree in reading education and currently have my certification to be a reading specialist. These programs drive my focus in my classroom as I strive to help my students obtain the skills necessary to read and understand literature and apply those writing strategies to their own essays.
Outside of school, I spend my time with my three children, Noah, Bella, and Caroline, and husband. These crazy kids love hearing about my students and frequently help me to better understand some of the struggles my students might be going through in my classroom.
If you need to contact me, email is best, and I will try to respond by the end of the day.
