Mr. David Higgs

WELCOME TO ROUND LAKE MIDDLE SCHOOL!

Your child’s middle school experience is crucial in them becoming a young adult and for their successful transition to High School.  Our staff is committed to your child, you and the Round Lake community. We will work tirelessly to ensure educational excellence for every student both in and out of the classroom. During this crossroads into young adulthood, we will work hard to increase student mastery of subjects and skills as well as encourage them to get involved in different activities, clubs, and hobbies.

I am honored and privileged to be serving in my eighth year as Principal of Round Lake Middle School. I came to this position in 2014 after having been a Principal at every level PK-12 in smaller but similar districts I am a lifelong learner and believe that education combined with hard work and a positive outlook are keys to increased opportunities. Major milestones of my lifelong learning was earning a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in History from North Park University, a Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Northern Illinois University, a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Western Illinois University.  However, the best learning experiences for me have come from the students in my buildings.   I know the value of a good education but more importantly, I also know the value of family.  I am blessed with a wonderful wife and three fantastic children ages 18, 14 & 5. My philosophy for leading a school is centered on one question, “How would you want your own child treated?”  This a question I ask my staff all the time to keep us focused on what is best for the individual student as well as for all of the students.

Your partnership with us is greatly valued!   As parents, there are many ways you can be involved in the life of this school and the most important is setting a tone for the importance of why they are at school.  Please take the time each day to ask them what they have learned and about their experiences that day.   Our goal in working with you is to ensure that we educate your child both academically and social emotionally. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me, my team or your child’s teacher if there is any way we can further support you or your child along this journey. Let’s make it a great year and move forward together!

Best Wishes,

Dave Higgs, Ed.S

Mrs. Sarah Lindh

Associate Principal of Curriculum & Instruction

Oftentimes in education, we hear pronouns of your and mine or his and her students, but if we truly want kids to find success we must look at education as an opportunity to co-serve ALL of OUR KIDS.  We know students come to us from different backgrounds and with different needs, but regardless, we owe it to our students to hold them to high expectations that will open doors to their most promising future.  If we are truly co-serving ALL OUR KIDS we can work together to not only hold them to high expectations but support them in reaching those expectations.  I believe we need to educate and value the whole child in the work we do.

I am honored to be your Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction at Round Lake Middle School.  I come to this position having served in two different administrative roles, Director of Teaching and Learning and Associate Principal of Teaching and Learning over the last six years.  Prior to my administrative experiences, I was an elementary teacher for nine years.  I believe all these experiences will assist me in our work at Round Lake Middle School.  I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in elementary education and my master’s degree in educational leadership from Cardinal Stritch University.  I find great joy in working with and advocating for all students.  I have a passion for working with educators to grow in their instructional practices to ensure all kids have access and opportunity for success.  On a more personal note, I am a mom and wife.  My husband is an Athletic Director in Wisconsin and our four-year-old twins will be starting 4K this fall.

Leadership is not about arriving or gaining titles, rather it is about acknowledging we can always grow and learn from each experience and group of people we lead.  I believe that my willingness to be vulnerable and genuine with those around me is what makes me a kind, compassionate and collaborative leader.  I look forward to fueling my passion and fire, while learning, growing, and co-serving with all of you for years to come.  Thank you for the opportunity to be part of your child’s life, I am excited to meet each of you and co-serve ALL OUR KIDS!

Mr. Joseph Williams

Greetings Wildcat Nation!

Welcome to a new school year! This year, I am full of optimism, passion, and focus, and sincerely honored to be given the opportunity to serve our families, our staff, and most importantly: our scholars. As many of us know, the middle school years in each scholar’s life are some of the most pivotal and transformational. Our goal is to offer our scholars the tools to help them persevere through adversity, to think critically about issues in the world that surrounds them, and to prepare them for a successful transition into high school and beyond. Academic excellence is our goal.

I have the distinct privilege of being the new Assistant Principal of Student Services here at Round Lake Middle School. Prior to serving at RLMS, I have served as an Assistant Principal, Instructional Coach, Behavior Interventionist, and as a teacher at the middle school level. As a teacher, I oversaw school safety, curriculum planning, and family engagement. I also formed partnerships with community leaders and agencies to create mentorship programs that focused on a variety of topics, ranging from literacy and math skills to character building and community service opportunities.

Leadership involves collaboration, empathy, communication, and treating each other with dignity and kindness. Even as we persevere through our own challenges, it is important to remember that each tomorrow is a new opportunity to start anew, and another opportunity to make ours and each other’s dreams a reality. I look forward to working alongside you this year and being a partner in your scholar’s education.
