Qualifying for Services

Round Lake proudly serves families and students from approximately 30 different language backgrounds. English language development and/or bilingual services are provided to qualifying students to support their linguistic and academic needs. Our programs focus on leveraging a student’s home language and culture to promote English language acquisition and academic achievement.

When a school has 20 or more students who speak the same language and qualify for English language services, the school district is required by law to provide a transitional bilingual education program. When there are 19 or fewer students who speak the same language at a school, the district offers a Transitional Program of Instruction in English in accordance with the law. All of our PK-12 schools offer both programs for Transitional Bilingual Education and Transitional Program of Instruction. Currently, our pre-school and elementary schools offer a Spanish one-way dual language program.
