Round Lake offers a One-Way Dual Language program following a 50/50 content language allocation model for native Spanish-speaking students who qualify for full-time bilingual education. Students participating in this program spend half of their day learning academic content and language in Spanish and half of their day learning academic content and language in English.

The Dual Language Program is committed to empowering multilingual students to develop Spanish and English bilingualism and biliteracy, high academic achievement and socio-cultural competence through rigorous academic expectations, as well as culturally relevant educational experiences. Our dual language program respects and builds upon students’ unique cultural and linguistic attributes to achieve these goals.  Participation in this program will prepare students to succeed in a multicultural society and the global economy; and to graduate with the Seal of Biliteracy.

Students are only eligible to initially enroll in the Dual Language program at the kindergarten or first grade level. However, if a student has participated in a Dual Language program in another district, or is new to the country and Spanish-speaking, they may be eligible to continue with dual language placement in Round Lake. Please indicate during the registration process if your child has participated in a Dual Language program in another district.

Dual language is offered in pre-kindergarten - 4th grade for the 2023-2024 school year. Students qualifying for full-time bilingual services in grades 5-12 will participate in our Transitional Bilingual Education Program. Transitional Bilingual Education through a self-contained classroom will continue to be replaced by Dual Language as the program continues to expand. For Multilingual students not participating in the Dual Language program, Transitional Bilingual Education will continue to be available through a collaboration model.
