Dual Language
Round Lake offers a One-Way Dual Language program following an 80/20 content language allocation model for native Spanish-speaking students who qualify for full-time bilingual education. In an 80/20 model, the majority of content is delivered in Spanish in grades PK-2 and then becomes 50% Spanish and 50% English in grades 3-5.
The Dual Language Program is committed to empowering multilingual students to develop Spanish and English bilingualism and biliteracy, high academic achievement and socio-cultural competence through rigorous academic expectations, as well as culturally relevant educational experiences. Our dual language program respects and builds upon students’ unique cultural and linguistic attributes to achieve these goals. Participation in this program will prepare students to succeed in a multicultural society and the global economy; and to graduate with the Seal of Biliteracy.
Please indicate during the registration process if your child has participated in a Dual Language program in another district.
Dual language is offered in pre-kindergarten - 5th grade for the 2024-2025 school year. Students qualifying for full-time bilingual services in grades 6-12 will participate in our Transitional Bilingual Education Program. For Multilingual students not participating in the Dual Language program, Transitional Bilingual Education will continue to be available through a collaboration model.
