Licensure Application Process
To be a substitute teacher in Illinois public schools you must possess either a current Illinois Professional Educators License or a current Illinois Substitute License. Complete an application using the Round Lake Area Schools CUSD #116 online hiring platform (Red Rover). Locate/browse for the Day-to-Day Substitute (Teaching/Teaching Assistant) or Long-Term Substitute (Teaching/Teaching Assistant) postings.

The Human Resources Department will receive notifications for all submitted online applications and supporting interviews. If selected, applicants will receive next step information. This information [UNDER CONSTRUCTION]

A new hire packet will be sent to applicants [UNDER CONSTRUCTION]

The new hire packet is considered complete when all electronic forms have been submitted and any supporting documents have been provided. Supporting documents include:

• Transcripts of College Credits (Copies Accepted)
• Healthcare Provider Statement (Examination Form) 
  • Purpose: to confirm employee is physically fit to work and free from communicable disease
  • Statement/Examination Form: must be clearly signed and dated within the 90 days prior to employment.
    • Option 1: Form is provided by applicant's medical provider.
    • Option 2: Round Lake Area Schools form template is completed by applicant's medical provider.
  • TB Test (required only for substitutes planning to take assignments at the Early Education Center
• Acceptable I-9 Documents to Copy (list will be provided)
• Direct Deposit Authorization
• Additional Financial & Personal Information Forms
  • Federal W-4 Form / IL W-4 Form / FED SSA-1945 Form
  • Confidentiality Agreement / Emergency Contact / EEOC 
• IL Mandated Reporter Form
• Complete District GCN Tutorials & ALICE Training Module
• Complete Faith's Law Requirements - Verifent
• Receipt of: Guest Teacher Program Handbook / Crisis & Safety Manual  
• Acknowledgment of: SOPPA / Staff Device Policy / Personal Technology & Social Media Usage & Conduct / AUP 

The Human Resources Department will contact applicants to schedule an intake and onboarding appointment. The following is required at this appointment:

• On-site Fingerprinting  
• I-9 Documents - Must Establish Identity & Employment Authorization  Examples of Acceptable Documents Include:
  • Passport or
  • Driver's License and Social Security Card or Driver's License and Birth Certificate

Once all documents have been submitted and references have been cleared, employee profiles will be created for substitutes and required systems (building access, required trainings, substitute managment) will be activated. Substitutes can expect external correspondences from the following systems:

• Red Rover - Substitute Management (Call) System
• GCN - State Mandated Trainings
• Navigate360 (ALICE for Schools) District Directed Training

These notifications will include access and login information - please be sure that these notifications are received and read completely.

2025-2026 Pay Rates
Day-to-Day Assignments - Daily Rates
- Guest Teacher $180 *
- Guest Teaching Assistant (TA) $130

Round Lake Area Schools Retirees receive a special daily rate of $200 per day *

Long-Term Assignments - Daily Rates
- Guest Teacher $255
- Guest Teaching Assistant (TA) $150

For an assignment to be considered long-term, the following criteria must be met:
- The absence/assignment is for a single staff member
- The absence/assignment is for 10 or more consecutive days

If a long-term assignment requires transition or shadowing days, the daily rate will be paid.
