What is Mastery Learning?

 “Mastery learning is a set of teaching and learning strategies based on the premise that all students will achieve a high level of understanding in a given domain if they are given enough time.” 
-Benjamin Bloom

In other words…Mastery learning proposes that all children can learn when provided with the appropriate learning conditions in the classroom.

4 Essential Questions of Learning

Q1. What is it that we expect students to know and do?

The curriculum: Power Standards, Standards, Indicators

Q2. How will we know they have learned it?

The assessment cycle with rubrics and standards-based grading

Q3. How will we respond when they do not learn?

Correctives, interventions, and second chances

Q4. How will we respond when they already know it?
