OUR MISSION

The Round Lake Social Studies department exists to develop all RLAS students into inquisitive, confident, and empathetic life-long learners.  We equip students to think critically about the world around them, cultivate their own agency to affect positive change, and engage civilly as they influence and lead others.

Our department believes in a student-centered, inquiry-oriented approach to education. Students learn within a classroom environment that incorporates high degrees of rigor, relevance, and relationships.

Our Approach

We envision a future where teachers and students are enthused about the opportunities that social studies provide for academic enrichment and civic engagement.  Students are energized by inquiry-based learning environments that allow for a high degree of student choice and promote efficacy both in and out of the classroom.  Both students and teachers see myriad connection points between the content being taught in classrooms and students’ lives in the real world.  Students are graduating RLHS more inquisitive, more critically thoughtful, and more equipped to make a positive impact in their communities.
