    RLAS-116 continues to follow guidance and mandates as released by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

    "The IDPH supports the CDC's guidance recognizing the fundamental importance of in-person learning for the wellbeing of students, families, and communities. These public health experts stress that all schools may not be able to implement all the public health strategies, like social distancing, perfectly, and that's okay. They urge school districts to provide full-time access to in-person learning for all students, while layering the public health requirements to the best of their ability."     The decision to offer virtual/remote, hybrid, or in-person learning is determined by local school districts. RLAS-116 will continue to make data-informed decisions about their learning model during the COVID-19 pandemic using health metrics and data provided by the Lake County Health Department School Decision Dashboard and other local and regional resources. 

    Learning Model Definitions

    • Virtual/Remote Learning: Students learn from a remote location outside of the school setting.
    • Hybrid Learning: Students learn from a combination of virtual/remote and in-person learning settings.
    • In-Person Learning: Students learn inside the school setting. 

    Important Note:

    Other information used in making decisions about which instructional model the District is implementing include:

    1. Workforce availability of active staff and substitutes - The COVID-19 pandemic may impact staffing availability due to illnesses and quarantine/isolation requirements.
    2. PPE availability and safety protocol information - Safety requirements have continued to change during the pandemic which may require adjustments to the District’s current safety procedures.

  • The COVID-19 dashboard shows the daily number of active positive cases among students and staff at each building in the district. 

    Data notes:

    • Total number of individuals confirmed COVID positive and are currently in isolation.
    • Active cases remain in daily totals until exit from isolation.

    Determinations of the type of learning model will be made by:

    • Assessing the following metrics and ratings of Highest, Moderate, or Lowest Risk (upward/downward trends to be considered)
    • Our ability to implement the following mitigation strategies:
      • Consistent and correct use of masks
      • Social distancing, to the largest extent possible *
      • Hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette
      • Cleaning and disinfection
      • Contact tracing in collaboration with the local health department

     * CDC recommends schools maintain at least 3 feet of physical distance between students within classrooms to reduce transmission risk. Because of the importance of in-person learning, schools, where not everyone is fully vaccinated, should implement physical distancing to the extent possible within their structures (in addition to other prevention strategies), but should not exclude students from in-person learning to keep a minimum distance requirement.
