2016-2017 School Calendar Released

Over the winter months, a recommendation is made to the Board of Education for the next school year’s calendar. The Board reviewed the proposed 2016-2017 school calendar at their meeting in early January and approved it on January 25, 2016.

Please note the following points:

  • The start of school is scheduled for Monday, August 22, 2016. This is a little later than normal and will help to accommodate the construction project timeline needs for the 2016 summer.
  • Three 2-hour late start dates have been scheduled for students on Tuesday, September 6; Tuesday, October 11; and Monday, November 14. These late starts will provide for additional professional development for staff. The two-hour late start for students will mirror the November 10 schedule this year. Late-start schedules can be viewed at www.rlas-116.org.
  • Winter Break for students will be Thursday, December 22, 2016 through Tuesday, January 3, 2017.
  • The last day of school (if no emergency days are used) is scheduled for Wednesday, May 31, 2017.

We understand that this calendar is a bit different than prior years and wanted to be sure that we communicated this information to our families as soon as possible.
If you have any questions regarding this information, please do not hesitate to contact your school office.

JTMMS Needs Your Help to Win $2,500 this Earth Day!

Dear Parents,

Our school has the opportunity to win $2,500 this Earth Day, and we need your help!

Our 6-8 grade students are participating in an energy conservation program from The National Theatre for Children called The Resource Force. Through this program, ComEd customers from our school are eligible to receive a Resource Kit at no charge (one kit per household). These kits contain items to use in the home to save energy.

On Earth Day, 2016 (April 22), the school that has saved the most energy by requesting the most Resource Kits will win $2,500. One family winner will also be drawn from the Resource Kit requests to win $1,000.

On top of that, the first 30 participating schools to reach 100 Resource Kit requests will automatically win $250 for their science departments. Only 16 of these rewards remain!

Please request your FREE kit and help our school win!
Go online or call to request your kit:
