Murphy Student Council Gives Thanks
On Tuesday, November 20th the Murphy Student Council visited Mano a Mano, our community partner, to give books, construction paper, and crayons to the child care room. The idea was the result of a meeting between Principal Phil Georgia and Mano a Mano Director Carolina Duque discussing how our two organizations could support each other.
After viewing the newly constructed child care and classrooms at Mano a Mano, Principal Georgia approached the Murphy Student Council sponsors, Jennifer Etherington and Megan Pontarelli, about having the Student Council donate items for the child care room. They jumped at the opportunity, suggesting that the event include a book and food drive and that it be tied to Thanksgiving. “We’re always looking for ways our members can provide service to the community” said Etherington, “It’s so important for them to be part of giving back for all that has been given to them.”
Upon arriving at Mano a Mano the Student Council members were given a tour of the building and an explanation of the classes and services the organization provides to the community. “We are so grateful”, Carolina Duque told the students, “You just doubled the size of our library!” After presenting the items they brought they got sidetracked playing with all the toys! “It was neat to see how a little time and effort can go so far”, said Principal Georgia. “I think many of our students realized today that some simple actions, that really don’t require that much time and effort, can have a huge impact on others.”
