Read for at least 20 minutes every day including Saturday, Sunday, and all other days away from school.
Students can read (or have someone read with them) books, magazines, online stories - anything that is appropriate content and matched to their reading level. Perfect practice is reading 'just right' books.
Students should be reading out loud for fluency practice and listening to reading (someone reading to them, books on tape).
Each student will get a weekly reading log that they can fill out and return on Fridays.
First grade students practice their addition math facts to develop fluency and accuracy.
Practice math facts and flashcards every day for at least 5 minutes. The goal is for students to be fluent [fast] AND accurate [right answer every time]!
Math fluency is very important as it frees students to use math energies to solve more complex problems without struggling during computation.
