Welcome to my webpage!
I am excited to continue to be the reading interventionist at Magee this year! This is my fourth year here at JTMMS and my 11th year teaching. I completed my Master's in Reading Instruction in 2015 and became a Reading Specialist. Teaching reading has always been a passion of mine and I love working with our students.
I work with small groups of students, focusing on reading comprehension, fluency, and phonics.
Homework - How can you help your child raise their reading abilities?
Read, Read, Read at home. Find something your child is interested in reading and they will be more likely to read on their own and enjoy it.
How to find the right level of book: Most books are given a number called a "Lexile". When students take the MAP test, they are assigned a Lexile number which stands for the level of book they can read. All of the students in my intervention classes know their Lexile range and if they can't remember, I'm just an email away! If you go to www.lexile.com, you can type in the title of the book your child wants to read, and a Lexile level will come up. If in doubt, there is the 5 finger method. Turn to a random page in the middle of the book. Every time the student gets to a word they do not know, they put a finger up. If all 5 fingers are up before finishing the page, that book is too hard.
I am the most accessible through email:
