I am looking forward to starting one more year at Raymond Ellis Elementary!
This year I will service bilingual and ESL students as a member of the ENL department. This is my sixth-year teaching at Ellis; however, I have worked in the district for fifteen years. Since 2003, I have taught in mainstream, bilingual, and ESL classrooms in grades 3 to 6. For several years I served as part of the School Leadership Team, and more recently I became the liaison for the school PTO that I helped establish in 2015.
I hold a BS in Chemical Engineering from my native country of Nicaragua, an MA in Education, and an MA in Educational Leadership from Concordia University Chicago. Moreover, I am in the process of completing a Ph.D. in Special Education with the hope of gaining a better understanding on how to serve our ENL/Special Education student population.
Through my life, I have worked very hard to achieve my dreams. As most of my students, I am a second language learner; therefore, I can relate to them, and I understand many of the challenges that learning a second language encompasses. However, I also know many shortcuts and strategies that my students can use to their advantage.
Teaching is my passion! I strongly believe in creating exceptional minds through the art of teaching. I hold my students to very high expectations/standards so that they follow that model to succeed in their lives.
With the support of my colleagues and parents I hope to help my students become independent, self-reliant, contributing members of their community.
