HELLO AND WELCOME TO MURPHY SCHOOL!
My name is Mary Rose. I have been a teacher for many years. Before coming to Round Lake Park, I was employed in C.C.S.D.46 for eight years as a teaching assistant, kindergarten teacher, and second grade teacher. My teaching career began in the south suburbs in a private school as a fifth and sixth grade teacher. This year, I am beginning my fifth year teaching at W. J. Murphy School. I have taught two years in fifth grade and two years as a fourth-fifth grade multi-age teacher. However, for 2014-15, I am beginning a new adventure as a Reading Specialist at Murphy. I was thrilled when Mr. Georgia asked me to join the Reading Team.
Professionally, I earned my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 1987 from the University of Northern Iowa. In May of 2010, I received my Master of Arts in Reading Instruction from Aurora University. In June of 2012, I completed the approval program through Benedictine University for Teaching English as a Second Language. I chose these graduate level courses in order to help me grow as a teacher and better meet the needs of the students I teach. I am so excited to be putting my years of post-graduate work to good use as a reading teacher this year.
Outside of school, I have a beautiful family which includes a husband, an adult daughter that lives at home, a college-aged son attending the University of IL, and two dogs. I was born and raised in Iowa. I am the daughter of two public school teachers. As a young child, I dreamed of one day being a wife, mother, and teacher. I am living my dreams and I hope to help your child do the same.
