Welcome one and all to my webpage. I'm Mr. Dietmeyer and I'm excited about entering my 11th year teaching primarily health education to our 7th and 8th graders, although we have also added a 9 week health unit to incoming 6th graders. I attended Western Illinois University where I graduated with high honors with a degree in Health and Physical Education. I also received my Master of Education degree with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction in August of 2010.
This year (2016-2017) among the three grades in health during our nine week course we will be concentrating on a variety of useful topics including:first aid/safety, nutrition/eating disorders, the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco and emotional health topics suchs as relationships, peer pressure, stress management, communication skills, conflict resolution, character, and abstinence. I try to organize a variety of activities in the classroom while also providing the students "hands on" opportunities in the computer lab, various audio visual lessons, and even a guest speaker or two. Two concepts I hope our Magee Cougars take out of my classes are "Your greatest wealth is health" and "Show me your friends...and I'll show YOU your future."
I also serve as the Coach of one of the boys basketball teams here at John T. Magee, where I stress developing basic fundamentals, always giving 100% effort, proper sportsmanship, learning how to be a successful part of a team....and of course having some fun! :) Lastly, I serve as coach for the 6th grade intramurals program. This consists of basic instruction, drills, practice, and games in co-ed basketball, volleyball, and soccer that is available only to our 6th grade student/athletes.
Personally, I am also a big sports fan, enjoy jogging and exercising, and love to travel, work around the yard, and hang out with my wife and two pooches.
Thanks for stopping by and feel free to email me with any school concerns. And remember, "triumph" is just "try" with a lot of "umph"!
