This is my sixteenth year teaching fifth grade at Ellis. I graduated from the College of Lake County and then transferred to Barat College to study elementary education. I then went on to earn a master’s degree in teaching and learning from Nova Southeastern University.
My favorite aspect of teaching is the challenge to challenge all students. One of the accomplishments that I am most proud of is the book I wrote, Mysteries for Writing and Critical Thinking, and how it evolved from the challenge to challenge. I had decided to have the class attempt to solve a mystery I had written, and they impressed me with their skills they had used. I kept writing more difficult cases, and the students continued to solve them. After a while I had enough to submit to a publisher. I am so proud that Ellis students helped develop a book that other teachers in other places can use to challenge their students.
