Welcome to Mrs. Licht's Homepage.  I am happy to tell you that I have taught in District 116 for 32 years.  I feel as energized, challenged, and motivated as I did when I first began.  I began working with Kindergarteners and first graders back in 2001 and enjoy learning right along with them.  This is not your kindergarten from when you were in school, let me tell you.

  With the adoption of the new Common Core Standards the curriculum has been remapped to meet the rigor of these standards.  Our Reading Streets literacy program addresses the CCS and is helping our students develop amazing growth in their reading and writing.
Our district has also adopted a Math program designed to help students achieve mastery in the Common Core Math standards.  Currently, students are working with math partners, seat work, hands on, and small group approaches to gaining knowledge in number sense, geometry, algebra, operations, and measurement.

Our day begins after breakfast, about 8:40.  Our focus in the morning is a 30 minute literacy intervention at 9:00 and math instruction beginning at 10:05. The math instruction is approached through daily calendar, daily count, daily word problems led by students. Next is a quick review before we do the whole group, hands on lesson of the day.  After whole group and independent practice, partner activities are assigned for further mastery of the CCS. This time is also used to reteach.
  At 9:30 your child also enjoys 30 minutes of a special each day: A-Music then Art, B-Library, C-Reading Writing Lab, D- PE and 10:30-Computers, and  E-PE at 12:40.

We break for lunch and recess at 11:10.  At 12:00 we begin our Literacy Block. This is approached through whole group work in vocabulary, phonics, sight words, and reading skills; independent and differentiated literacy stations, small guided reading groups, daily computer support, and individual pull out assitance. At 12:45  we enjoy a snack and then continue the Literacy Block. By 2:10 we finish our day with writing-a process based instruction.
