Welcome to Mr. Pierson's website. The physical education curriculum in place at John T. Magee provides students with activities that progressively increase their competence, improves their feelings about themselves and others, and has a relevance to a lifetime of fitness. The physical education staff wants our students to become individuals who understand and appreciate movement. We expose the students to a variety of fitness games/activities, sports, team building activities, and lifetime leisure/recreational activities.   We feel physical education is an important and valuable part of a students day.
 
 
  Why Physical Education is important!
  
Research shows that physical activity can positively affect:
 
The Brain:
 
*Blood flow and oxygen to the brain, thereby improving mental clarity.
 
*The part of the brain responsible for learning and memory.
 
*Connections between nerves in the brain, thereby improving attention and information-processing skills.
 
Physical activity also:
 
*Builds strong bones and muscles.
 
*Decreases the liklihood of developing obesity and risk factors for diseases  such as type 2
diabetes and heart disease.
 
*Promotes positive mental health and can reduce anxiety and depression.
 
*Positively affects classroom behavior and can help students improve their concentration and
memory.
