Dear Parents/Guardians,
The PTO would like to take this opportunity to welcome each of you and your families back to W.J. Murphy School. If this is your first year here, we welcome you to the Murphy family. It is sure to be another great year.
We would also like to take this time tell you a little about the PTO. The PTO’s main objective is to provide with funds, programs, resources, and services that will enrich and maximize the education of every child. All of this is possible through fundraising. Though, it may not be our favorite responsibility, it is a necessary one. Our school community must raise money so that we can continue to support the programs we have come accustom to and that makes Murphy school its own. The monies raised over the years have helped provide, support or help fund the following to name a few;
o Murphy take home folders
o Honor Roll breakfast
o Teacher grants
o Diabetes Walk
o In-House assemblies
o Library Books
o 5th grade Field Trip
o Teacher Library
This year the PTO’s annual fundraiser is the Innisbrook holiday gift brochure which will kick off on September 14, 2009. We hope that as many of you as possible will help support this fundraiser. The goal of the PTO is to raise $6,500 to support the items listed above and to hopefully start to offer more services to our school community.
We need your help and so do your children. Please consider filling out a “Three for ME” volunteer form. Volunteering doesn’t have to mean a huge time commitment. We do understand it is increasingly difficult to find time to give. We ask that you please consider giving whatever your time schedule allows; we have a need for you.
We would also ask you to consider being a PTO member too. Come to a meeting to see what happens, share your ideas, and help support/schedule events. Our parent group is certainly more then fundraising. We are men and women working together towards one goal. That goal, simply stated is to create a better school and a better educational experience for our children. There is much and more work to be done and we need your help. Please consider coming to our first PTO meeting scheduled for September 8, 2009 @ 7 pm in the school Library.
As you can see we are a busy group! This is where you can come in! Again we ask that you consider filling out a “Three for Me” volunteer form and/or consider becoming a PTO member. We need your help, and so do your children. Over 500 independent studies on parent involvement show that when parents get involved in their children’s education grades go up, test scores improve, children are more likely to attend better schools after high school, they have fewer discipline problems and they’re less likely to use drugs and alcohol. Get involved TODAY!
On behalf of the W.J. Murphy PTO we would once again like to extend a warm welcome and best wish for a successful school year! Please contact the PTO with any questions or comments at wjmurphypto@yahoo.com.
Sincerely,
Your current W.J. Murphy PTO Executive Committee
