Grading
The school year is divided into four quarters, each one is nine weeks in length. Students are graded and receive report cards on a quarterly basis. Only semester grades (January and June) are recorded on a student's permanent record; the quarter grades are progress reports.
The following is an explanation of the grading scale used on report cards:

|

|

|

Students will receive an Academic Progress Report periodically. This report will reflect the student's grade to date, attendance and teacher's comments. Parents need to be especially alert to the grade and attendance report. These reports will be mailed to your home.
If you fail to receive these reports, please call the school to verify your address; if it is correct, you may be assured it was mailed.
GRADING SCALE
Round Lake Middle School and Round Lake Senior High School and have a standard grading scale which shall be considered as the minimum achievement level to determine a student's letter grade. The scale is as follows:
| A | 90-100% |
| B | 80-89% |
| C | 70-79% |
| D | 60-69% |
| F | 0-59% |
- As this is a minimum scale, teachers may raise standards in their individual classrooms.
- Students in honor classes should expect a higher scale. In all cases, an "A" grade shall not require a higher percentage than 93%. A passing grade shall not be lower than 70%.
- Grades shall not be curved, either on an individual test or for a particular grading period.
- Classroom participation may be 30% of a student's grade.
- Final exams shall be no more than 20% of the final grade.
The "ATT" column indicates the number of student absences for the course. Absences are cumulative to the end of each semester.
The "COM" column indicates additional teacher comments.

In order to reach a certain classification, high school students must earn credits as noted below:
| Status | Credits Required |

GUIDANCE
It is the purpose of the Counseling and Guidance Department to serve students, parents, and faculty in whatever matters that contribute to making the high school years ones of maximum educational and social growth for all pupils.
Throughout high school, the student is given assistance that will help him/her wisely plan a course for the future. Conferences with classroom teachers, achievement and other tests, and interviews with counselor are the means used to aid in these important considerations.
In the Guidance Office and in the Library are files of information about careers and colleges. For each occupation, the student can find information about the nature of work, the personal qualities and training necessary, where to get training, the cost of it, what wages one may expect to earn, etc.
SCHEDULE CHANGES
Schedule changes must be initialed by the counselor, and a $2.00 fee must be paid to cover the cost of preparing a new schedule and reprinting existing class enrollment records.

All subjects except Audio Visual, P.E. Exempt and office work are now computed in the grade point average. The honor roll is posted each semester.

ROUND LAKE IS A CLOSED CAMPUS
Round Lake District #116 has a closed campus policy. Students are not allowed to leave the campus for lunch or for any other reason without following sign-out procedures. Outside doors will be locked each day except for the main entrance to the building in order to provide for adequate security. Non-students will not be allowed on the campus unless they check in at the school office as a visitor.
ACADEMICALLY TALENTED STUDENTS
The High School offers enrichment activities within Math, Science, English, and Social Studies curriculum in the honors and advanced placement courses. Classes meet daily. Each class is designed to meet the needs of the student ability within specific content areas. Students who demonstrate high levels of achievement (equivalent to a 95th national percentile) on the ISAT (Illinois Standard Achievement Test) or the EXPLORE or the PLAN may be recommended for the enrichment activities. The student must also receive a teacher recommendation of at least 45 points plus on a 60 point checklist. It is understood that students will maintain a B average to continue participation in honor classes at the high school. Students who do not meet this criteria may participate with the agreement of the student, parent/guardian, teacher of specific content area, and principal. Math Team and Academic Team are also available for enrichment.
