This is a five week summer program running from June 9 to July 17 from 8:00 in the morning till 11:45 for K-6.

Intensive Pre-school is also offered to students who have not participated in pre-school. The basics are covered as a brief introduction to the Kindergarten experience.

Summer Bridges is also offered for children needing additional assistance during summer.

    Parent Activities with Children

Not sending your child to Summer Experience with RLAS?

Here are a few tips to help your child retain all the information they have gained throughout the year:

    1) Attend the Library (Libraries around your area)

    2) Attend Park District events/Summer Camps

    3) Visit www.Colorincolorado.org for ideas on helping your child to read.

    4) Make shopping fun: For young children practice counting, identifying shapes, colors, for older children ask them clarifying questions, have them pay the cashier with currency, help you find the groceries (they practice reading this way and make connections to the importance to reading at school)

    5) When you go on road trips (however brief) practice the concept of miles and time: How long does it take to go from point A to point B.

    6) Share time with your child and make it meaningful, avoid T.V. and movies, play games, or create games

    7) Develop your child's imagination, go on a 'quest' to find a fairy tale creature, etc.

Imaginary play develops imagination and reduces boredom. Creating lyrics to songs your children know will have hours of entertainment.

For the older Children, removing them from electronics may be difficult, but have them discover nature. Go on a nature walk, find out how many different birds, animals they see (this develops skills in observation, listening, and comparing and contrasting-if you ask them to make connections to stories, or movies they have seen).

There are many activities that can be created with a little imagination, dig inside of you and recreate what you grew up with and add a spin to it, remember you are dealing with the technology savy child.

    Happy Summer to Everyone!!
