Round Lake Area Schools-District #116 Report for 2005 Report Card
Our main goal for District 116 is to improve our academic performance while operating under very challenging circumstances. In various buildings and grades we have improved student performance in state assessment (ISAT, PSAE and IMAGE). However we realize that there is a great need for improvement in several areas.
We continue to plan for improvement and creatively utilize our funding sources from federal and state grants to provide quality staff development opportunities for our staff. This enables our teachers and support staff to learn new strategies and best practices for instruction in order to differentiate instruction, attend specific needs of all students and integrate technology and curriculum software such as Advanced Learning Systems, Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math into their lessons.
The same funding sources also allow us to provide remedial instructional services in reading, writing and math in grades K-8, special education and bilingual/ESL education services in grades K-12 and services for academically talented students by providing differentiated instruction in a grade level cluster model at the elementary level and advanced placement courses at the middle school and the high school.
In order to improve our curriculum and instructional strategies we have adopted a new math series and implemented the 4 Block Model of literacy instruction in grades K-6 district wide. Alignment of the state learning standards into our curriculum and our exit criteria in grades K-8 provides for opportunities to plan instruction and inform parents of their student progress as well as the academic expectations of each grade level.
In grades 9-12 our main goal is to reduce student drop out, truancy and attendance rates as well as student performance in the ACT, the Prairie State Achievement Exam and the IMAGE test. Goals will be establish based on identified needs for academic improvement.
We are also focusing on reduction of our truancy and drop out rate district wide. Our truancy department is doing an excellent job to improve in this area.
