 DRESS CODE


Each student is expected to present an appearance that does not disrupt the educational environment or interfere with the maintenance of a positive teaching/learning climate. Students shall, therefore, be dressed appropriately for school and all school related activities.

Dress and/or grooming that is not in accordance with reasonable standards of health, safety, modesty and decency, or which creates a disruption to the educational process will be considered inappropriate and shall be prohibited. Students will be asked to comply. Non-compliance may result in discipline including parent contact, detention, and/or suspension according to each building's progressive discipline plan.

Prohibited dress or appearance includes, but is not limited to the following:

  1. Indiscreet halter tops and tank tops, muscle shirts, midriff tops, transparent blouses with inadequate undergarments, shorts less than mid-thigh, and lycra pants without over-garments. No midriff skin should show for any student.
  2. Hats, head coverings, hooded garments, jackets, representative clothing, and over-coats worn in the school building, Jogging suits will be appropriate for elementary students only. Hooded apparel and other outer wear are not to be worn in school. 
  3. Clothing or attire that contains references to, or advertises, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, cults, occult, or that contains sexual innuendo or slogans that denote violence or are materially disruptive to the educational process.
  4. Any clothing, jewelry, chains, emblem, badge, symbol, sign or other item which is commonly associated with any gang or which evidence membership or affiliation in any gang. If a belt is worn, no more than 2 inches may extend beyond the buckle. Pants legs shall be worn at even lengths.
  5. Make-up is not allowed for elementary age students. Those wearing make-up will be required to remove it. Heavy make-up is discouraged at Round Lake District Schools, i.e. dark eye make-up and dark lipstick and the like. 
  6. Students may not wear chains and/or dangerous jewelry for health and safety reason.
