RLAS-116 Board of Education and the Education Association of Round Lake Announce Collective Bargaining Agreement 4-Year Contract Approved

Round Lake Area Schools CUSD #116 Board of Education and the Education Association of Round Lake Announce Collective Bargaining Agreement

The Round Lake Area Schools CUSD #116 Board of Education (“Board”) is pleased to announce that the District and the Education Association of Round Lake (“EARL”) have reached a four-year collective bargaining agreement. The current agreement will expire June 30, 2017. Conversations about a contract rollover began in October 2016. The EARL membership ratified the contract (624 Yes, 31 No) on Thursday, January 19, 2017, followed by the Board’s approval (6 Yes, 0 No) of the agreement at their February 6, 2017 Board meeting.

EARL represents approximately 900 employees, including bus drivers, custodians, health services, maintenance, mechanics, secretaries, teacher aides, and teachers.

The agreement is a rollover from the current contract and includes an increase to the salary schedules resulting in an average increase of 1.9% per year on all salary schedule amounts. In comparison, the current 2014-2017 contract provided an average increase of 0.66% per year.  Teachers and support staff will therefore see about a 4% increase each year over the next 4 years, which is comprised of step and salary increases.

The new agreement will be posted to the District website by Friday, February 17, 2017.

If you have questions about this information, please contact Heather Bennett, Public Relations Officer at

27 Round Lake High School Students Join Brand New College Ambassadors Program

Round Lake High School continues to build upon its recent successes targeting increasing the graduation rate and preparing its students for college and career by implementing a brand new College Ambassadors Program. 27 Round Lake High School students, who have been a part of the College Prep Group since January 2016, have been selected for this inaugural group.

The Round Lake College Ambassadors will gain knowledge on the different aspects of the college search and application process, including financial aid and scholarship basics. Besides using this knowledge to pursue their own college goals, College Ambassadors will also help their fellow classmates to do the same by informing them about all the wonderful opportunities available to them.

The College Ambassadors, who will be easily identified by their bright yellow shirts on days that have an important deadline or event, are intended to be a go-to resource for their peers by promoting upcoming events and deadlines, as well as directing their peers to the various resources available both here at the school and elsewhere (online, etc.). The College Ambassadors will utilize various forms of communication including social media, text, and word of mouth, to encourage and motivate their peers to become engaged in the college planning process.
