RLHS senior, Bobby Rowe, one of 45 to attend All State Music Conference's Future Music Educator's Seminar RLHS senior, Bobby Rowe

RLHS senior, Bobby Rowe, named one of forty-five students selected for this honor

Round Lake High School is proud to announce that senior, Bobby Rowe has been selected to participate in the Illinois All-State Music Conference as part of the Future Music Educator’s Seminar. This seminar was created in an effort to encourage potential future music educators into the profession. Bobby and others in attendance will be mentored and exposed to various aspects of the profession and will also gain insight into the diverse aspects of music education.

Bobby was one of just 45 students selected state-wide, an incredible honor. At Round Lake High School, he serves as president and section leader of the top mixed ensemble, Panther Voices, and plays bass in Symphonic Band and Jazz Band. He also co-leads the extracurricular Men’s Choir as a student director.

Bobby and Round Lake music faculty will join over 10,000 other music teachers and students for the Conference on January 26-28.

If you would like to learn more about the program, please contact Heather Bennett, Public Relations Officer, at hbennett@rlas-116.org or 847-270-9007.

This week, AP Environmental Science (APES) students designed, built, and used Arduino computer based weather stations to explore micro climates around the high school campus.  Students found evidence of the Urban Heat Island Effect.  This technology was provided to Dr. Chad Solomon as part of the University of Wyoming’s Engineering Summer Program for Teachers.

RLAS-116 Board of Education and the Education Association of Round Lake Announce Collective Bargaining Agreement 4-Year Contract Approved

Round Lake Area Schools CUSD #116 Board of Education and the Education Association of Round Lake Announce Collective Bargaining Agreement

The Round Lake Area Schools CUSD #116 Board of Education (“Board”) is pleased to announce that the District and the Education Association of Round Lake (“EARL”) have reached a four-year collective bargaining agreement. The current agreement will expire June 30, 2017. Conversations about a contract rollover began in October 2016. The EARL membership ratified the contract (624 Yes, 31 No) on Thursday, January 19, 2017, followed by the Board’s approval (6 Yes, 0 No) of the agreement at their February 6, 2017 Board meeting.

EARL represents approximately 900 employees, including bus drivers, custodians, health services, maintenance, mechanics, secretaries, teacher aides, and teachers.

The agreement is a rollover from the current contract and includes an increase to the salary schedules resulting in an average increase of 1.9% per year on all salary schedule amounts. In comparison, the current 2014-2017 contract provided an average increase of 0.66% per year.  Teachers and support staff will therefore see about a 4% increase each year over the next 4 years, which is comprised of step and salary increases.

The new agreement will be posted to the District website by Friday, February 17, 2017.

If you have questions about this information, please contact Heather Bennett, Public Relations Officer at

Homecoming Information: There's No Place Like Homecoming

The theme for this year’s Homecoming is The Wizard of Oz: There’s No Place Like Homecoming.

Here are some of the events from Homecoming Week:

The Homecoming parade will take place on Saturday, September 9th, starting at 10 a.m. The parade will begin at the corner of Cedar Lake Road and Hawthorne Drive, continue south down Cedar Lake to Sunset, turn right on Sunset, and head back to the High School. Clubs, teams, and groups from the HS, middle schools, and elementary schools will be participating.

The Powder Puff football games will be held on Wednesday, September 13th. The Freshman/Sophomore game will begin at 4 p.m. with the Junior/Senior game to follow. Tickets are $5 each and 100% of that money goes to fund future Student Council events, like prom!

On Friday, September 15th, we will be having a school-wide pep rally celebrating all of the fall sports teams and getting the school pumped up for Friday night’s homecoming football game. It will be held outside on the football field, weather permitting.

The Homecoming dance begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 16th, and will be held in the high school gym.
